* An orange triangle on its side, pointing to the right: No passing sign
* A yellow circle with a large X in it extending to the sides of the circle: Railroad crossing
* Inverted red triangle with a white center: Yield

Good review! On the 3-column vision test for license renewal, what type of vision is the first column checking? I wear mono-vision contacts, and that column (number 4 or 5 at the bottom) was difficult for me to see. My left contact corrects for close reading, and the right contact corrects for distance. I just had my vision checked and new contacts in June, so I’m curious about this. The other columns were as clear as day.
Thanks.

Pat, I’m not sure about the details of the actual vision test. I must admit that since I’ve got “good eyes” (used to be 20/10 in my teens; not sure now), I don’t fret over those details as they should be inherently passable for me. Plus, it was 2-3 years ago that I took the test. That said, I was able to find this online: State Vision Requirements Carolina
I can’t see anything that addresses your specific question. To be honest, I’m not sure I know exactly what you’re referencing when you say the “3-column vision test.” All I remember was looking through the big piece of eye-testing machinery and seeing the standard vision chart and the sign shapes/colors test. There could have been more, but that’s all my memory is pulling up right now!

Questions that appeared on my test:
# Littering is … punishable by a fine not less than $250 and not more than $1000
# All motor vehicles registered in NC must be inspected … every twelve months
# Most accidents occur at … intersections
# When making a right turn … (forgot the answer. look up rules for turning in the handbook.)
# It is dangerous to drive very slowly … just after crossing the crest of a hill

Let me just say, everything on this page is a REAL HELPFUL tool. I would say to those who want to cheat that just because u get ur license doesn’t mean U CAN DRIVE! because if you don’t know what signs are, or where things are. Then you’re pretty messed up.
But again, everything on this page (IF YOU READ, and STUDY). Will be on the Test. Thank for putting this up.
