Delray Beach police say the suspect in two bank robberies got away with roughly $20,000 before being found at a bus stop with a bag of cash. The suspect, identified as Kevin Robertson, 36, is accused of robbing two banks within 24 hours of each other in Delray Beach. The first bank robbery happened Wednesday afternoon at the Truist bank on East Linton Boulevard. According to the probable cause statement, the teller reported that a man came to the window and passed her two notes.Detective John Caceres with the Delray Beach Police Department said the teller told them one of the notes left her shaken up."The part that really scared the teller was how the note stated that the suspect knew where she lived," Caceres said. Caceres said the other note demanded cash, and the employees complied. "The employees were very scared, very nervous and anxious about what had just occurred," he said. Court records show Robertson got away with about $9,200 and took off on foot. Caceres said they were able to quickly identify the suspect as Robertson and began their search."Literally just about 24 hours later, we get the next 911 call at the Chase Bank on West Atlantic Avenue near Military Trail, about a bank robbery that had just occurred there," he told WPBF. He said the teller at the Chase Bank told a very similar story to what they had learned at Truist Bank."It was the same, similar description as the day before, and as far as the same MO with the passing of the note stating the same things," Caceres said. The teller told police the suspect, Robertson, ran off with about $10,500. Delray Beach police, Boynton Beach police, the FBI and the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office all responded and began searching for Robertson. "As soon as the call came out, we were able to close down the perimeter and deploy every resource we had to use, which was our K-9 officers, Boynton Beach K-9 officers, the PBSO Aviation Unit, as well as the FBI," Caceres said. They soon learned their suspect may have been seen at the CVS across the street. "We reviewed the surveillance cameras, which showed that he entered the store, where he selected some items, and he paid for the items and then proceeded to throw some money at the employee that was working the register," Caceres said.According to the probable cause statement, Robertson tossed $400 in one-hundred-dollar bills at the employee before he left the store. Not long after, Caceres said a Delray Beach police officer spotted Robertson sitting at a bus stop. "The suspect at the time did not comply with the officer's orders. The officer had ordered him to stop with his hands up. The suspect started to walk away, not complying with the officer's orders. The officer was then able to apprehend the suspect, no harm to the officers or to the suspect," he said. According to court records, officers said Robertson had dropped a plastic bag with a large stack of money that contained $9,312. Officers reported finding another $92 in his pocket. Between the money found in his pocket, in the bag and the cash thrown at the CVS worker, police recovered $9,804 of the stolen cash. According to the probable cause statement, a passerby flagged down the arresting officer to ask if they had made an arrest in the bank robberies when Robertson yelled from the back of the patrol car, "Yeah, it's me."Robertson was taken to the police department for questioning, where Caceres said he was not cooperative. He was booked in the Palm Beach County jail on two robbery charges and given a $10,000 bond. "I just want to thank all the agencies that were involved in helping us apprehend the suspect. Like I said, that included our own officers, our road patrol unit, our canine officers, Boynton Beach Police Department, canine officers, the Palm Beach Sheriff's County aviation unit, and the FBI agents that responded to the scene," Caceres said.
