For turbochargers of internal-combustion engines, whose shaft (7) is guided in aerostatic bearings (8), the use of bearings is proposed whose shell is produced from a porous material whose surface layer compresses on the inner side of the bearing shell. Such bearings can be operated with air at relatively low pressure, so that the bearing air supply can be produced directly by tapping off the air compressed by the compressor (6). A compressed air reservoir (16), to be charged up by the compressor, is proposed as a buffer, and for supplying the bearing during the starting phase.
