If you get certain types of payments from ACC you need to let us know. The amount and type of payment you get may affect your benefit or payment.

Information

If you don't tell us we may not pay you enough. Or we may pay you too much and you'll have to pay the debt back.

Payments you need to tell us about

You have to tell us about these ACC payments as they could affect your benefit:

weekly compensation

survivor's grant (regular or one-off)

childcare

ACC payments from private insurers

payments for attendant care, home help and rehabilitation services

independence allowance

lump sum payments for impairment.

If you're getting ACC payments because of a sensitive claim, you need to tell us as it may affect your benefit entitlement. You do not need to tell us why you are getting this payment.

How to tell us

The easiest way to tell us about your ACC payments is online, using MyMSD.

If you've already told us about your ACC payments, they will show in MyMSD and you can change this from the home screen.

If you haven't told us about them yet, you need to select 'Declare wages' and then 'Change other income'.

Go to My MSD login

You need to tell us:

how much the payment is before tax

when you're paid

how often you get this payment.

The amount you declare will continue every week until you let us know it has stopped or changed.

If you can't use MyMSD

If you can't use MyMSD you can call us or come into one of our service centres.

If you’re declaring income from self-employment, make sure you mention you're self-employed.

Keep us up to date

If you don't tell us, we'll keep paying you the same benefit week after week. This could be too little or too much, and you could get into debt.

How your benefit will be affected

Main benefit

Most payments from ACC will affect your . In most cases we’ll deduct $1 for every $1 you get from ACC. It depends on the type of payment and the reason you’re getting it.

Other payments

If you're getting an ongoing payment such as Accommodation Supplement, most ACC payments will be included as income when assessing your rate of payment. It depends on the type of payment and the reason you’re getting it.

Backdated ACC weekly compensation payments

If ACC backdates your ACC weekly compensation payments, in most cases they’ll let us know.

We’ll reassess your benefit or payment for the same period the ACC payments are for. This may create a debt if we’ve paid you too much.

Main benefit debt

Your ACC payments will be used to cover this first. You do not need to do anything.

Other payment debt eg Accommodation Supplement

It’s your responsibility to pay this back.

We’ll attempt to make contact with you to discuss next steps. Please contact us if you don’t hear from us.
