Release Date
"Heal The World" was released by Epic Records on November 23, 1992 as the fifth single from his eighth studio album, "Dangerous". The song carries a strongly humanitarian message, emphasizing the need for love and care towards the world and its inhabitants. Michael Jackson solely wrote and composed "Heal The World". During his Dangerous World Tour, Jackson often performed this song to conclude his concerts. The song reached the top 5 in the UK Singles Chart. The music video features children living in countries suffering from unrest, especially Burundi. Inspired by the song, Michael Jackson founded "Heal the World Foundation" in 1992 to provide relief to underprivileged children. "Heal The World" has been recognized as a global anthem and was performed at many notable events, including the Super Bowl XXVII halftime show and Michael Jackson’s memorial service in 2009. Many artists have covered "Heal The World", including Connie Talbot, the Kidz Bop Kids, and The Voice Kids UK winner Jess Folley. In 2016, the song was subject of a copyright lawsuit that claimed Jackson didn't actually write the song, but it was dismissed by a U.S. judge. Although “Heal the World” wasn’t one of the biggest hits from the Dangerous album, the album itself was a big success, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. |
