Sherrone Moore Fired

Sam Webb has confirmed it with Michigan.

UPDATE (4:45 p.m.): Michigan Athletics has confirmed the news and issued the following statement, attributed to Athletic Director Warde Manuel:

"U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately. Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.

"Biff Poggi has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately."

There were rumors the last few weeks that were hard to countenance; knowing Warde Manuel and his preference for stepping carefully, it's reasonable to assume whatever they uncovered is indefensible.

Quiet December canceled, replacement list to come.

UPDATE 7:59 PM: Multiple reports that Sherrone was detained by police in Saline and turned over to police in Pittsfield Township for investigation into potential charges after being "involved in an incident ... that required police attention."

Hello: Kaden Catchings

Seth • December 9, 2025 • 9:35am

Still working through our list of commits during the season, we reach the flier of the LB class. Kaden Catchings committed on November 11, flipping from a USF commitment that only lasted 18 days. That tells a certain kind of story, usually one that heavily involves senior tape.

Starting this past season FBS teams have 105 roster spots rather than 125, but 105 scholarships rather than 85. This has done away with the walk-on distinction, and created a new level of Michigan recruit that used to either go elsewhere or get added late as scholarships opened up down the stretch. Now when they see a guy committed to Liberty that they think can grow into a Wolverine starter, they pluck. Or they see the guy flip to USF then pluck.

Michigan's had some great players come from that level—Willie Henry, Jibreel Black, Frank Clark, Dennis Norfleet, Jake Moody, Ike Iwunnah—but they're often high-upside guys who need a lot of work before they're playable.

That's Catchings, a Mississippi mooseback from an interstate league who started to look like a potential Division I linebacker as a senior. Trawling the lower Southern leagues for high ceilings was fruitful for Harbaugh, though an inexact science. While it's hard to tell what's in their net now, there are traits that might make Catchings a nice, uh, football player. Eventually.

1. Michigan Hockey vs Michigan State

Starts at :51

A very silly debate not worth publishing preceded the actual intro of this podcast. A split against Michigan State is a very fair result, the whole series was intense. The first period of the Saturday game was an onslaught that Michigan relatively survived, Jack Ivankovic has been solid. How many first and second rounders were in this game? The answer is in the double digits. Is the Big Ten the best hockey league in the world outside of the NHL? Most of the time this team looks dominant but looking back on that Wisconsin series and the first period against MSU on Saturday shows some concerning trends where Michigan can't get out of their own zone. Minnesota is surprisingly not what they've been in the last few years.
