Lumia Security Inc., a young startup focused on artificial intelligence security and governance, has secured $18 million in new funding to accelerate its mission of helping enterprises use AI safely. The investment will support expanded engineering and research, deeper integrations with major AI ecosystems, and a larger push into the global market. Founded in 2024 by two industry veterans — former PerimeterX Inc. co-founder and CEO Omri Iluz and former Unit 8200 chief technology officer Bobi Gilburd — Lumia aims to give organizations the tools they need to manage AI adoption responsibly. Both founders bring extensive experience in cybersecurity and large-scale technology operations, a background that now shapes Lumia’s vision to build an AI-first governance layer for the enterprise. Advertisements Lumia’s platform addresses a growing shift in business technology: companies are moving beyond isolated AI tools and beginning to embed task-specific, semi-autonomous agents directly into daily workflows. These agents perform everything from drafting reports to handling support requests. As adoption rises, so do concerns around safety, compliance, and visibility. Advertisements The company says its platform brings structure and control to this emerging environment. Instead of installing agents on individual devices, Lumia works at the network layer. This design allows enterprises to monitor AI activity across applications and systems without disrupting operations. It also lets organizations oversee thousands of AI tools at once, even in complex and highly distributed environments. Advertisements A key feature of the platform is continuous risk evaluation. Lumia tracks how both humans and AI agents interact with AI systems, checks for exposure risks, and enforces policies in real time. It gives security teams clarity on what each agent is doing, what permissions it is using, and which systems it touches. This visibility is increasingly critical as companies rely on AI for sensitive tasks that may involve private or regulated data. Advertisements At the heart of Lumia’s technology is its “Protocol Analysis Engine.” This component interprets different AI modalities and communication patterns, automatically analyzing interactions at scale. By understanding how AI agents behave, the engine can assess risk quickly and apply guardrails where needed. The company says this helps organizations unlock AI-driven productivity and automation without compromising security or regulatory requirements — a key concern for industries such as finance, healthcare, and technology. Lumia’s co-founder and CEO, Omri Iluz, emphasized that security teams are under mounting pressure. “CISOs cannot afford to be the ones slowing the business down,” he said. “But the risks introduced by AI are real. Lumia enables enterprises to adopt AI broadly while maintaining control and operating responsibly.” The seed round was led by Team8 Capital, with participation from New Era Capital. As part of the funding announcement, Lumia is adding a high-profile name to its advisory board: Admiral Michael Rogers, former director of the U.S. National Security Agency and former commander of U.S. Cyber Command. Rogers warned that enterprises need to prepare now for a rapid shift. “Autonomous AI is accelerating faster than most organizations are ready for,” he said. “Companies need early visibility, clear guardrails, and a framework for accountability before these systems become part of every workflow.” With its latest funding and growing leadership team, Lumia Security is positioning itself as an early authority in AI governance — an area many experts believe will soon become essential for every enterprise working with advanced AI systems.
